The mission of the CSJR is to raise awareness about restorative justice among a broad public.
The CSJR team presents restorative justice and the restorative model in unrelated crime to community organizations, university students and CEGEP students, conferences, and public events. Whenever possible, the CSJR presentations include the testimony of a person who has taken part in a restorative justice process with the CSJR. This testimony gives voice and perspective to those who have experience this process.
Here are a few testimonials from our presentations:
“The students told me they greatly appreciated the presentation, found it very relevant, and would recommend it for future courses.”
— October 18, 2022, Laurence de Montigny, Professor, Sexual Victimization course, Université de Montréal“As a student in Police techniques and in the Certificate in Criminology, the presentations given by the CSJR opened my mind to the realities of people who have been victim as well as those who have committed a crime. I discovered empathy for their lived experiences and was able to deconstruct prejudices I previously held. I am convinced that the awareness raised by the CSJR will make me a better police officer and a better person.”
— April 12, 2023, Shadei Saadé, student in Police Technology at Ahuntsic CEGEP and in the Certificate in Criminology at Université de Montréal“The CSJR’s visit as part of the Sexual Victimization course in the Certificate in Victimology at Université de Montréal was the most impactful moment of my semester. The presentation of the CSJR’s mission, vision, and restorative justice services was extremely interesting and enlightening. In addition, we had the invaluable opportunity to hear the testimony of a survivor of sexual assault about her restorative justice journey with the CSJR. I was deeply moved by her story and by the immense potential of restorative justice in terms of healing and living better together. I will never forget this experience. As someone who works with individuals who have experienced sexual victimization, the CSJR is a valuable resource that I will not hesitate to recommend.”
